Entry Process
All potential candidates who desire to join the College Place Fire Department must complete a four-step entry process (five steps for those applying for the Resident Firefighter Program).

Step One
The candidate fills out a drivers abstract form , an application, and a release of information to join the department. The application is then routed through the chain of command and evaluated. Following initial approval, the candidate proceeds to the next step.

  3. Hose drag
  4. Stair climb while carrying a shoulder load of 2 1/2” hose

Throughout the entire event, the candidate must wear turn-outs and a self-contained breathing apparatus. The candidate must complete this course in four minutes or less. Following successful completion of the Combat Challenge, the candidate proceeds to the next step.

Step Three
The candidate is interviewed by a panel consisting of members of the department. The candidate is asked such questions as why they want to join the College Place Fire Department, why they want to be a firefighter, etc. Following successful completion of the oral board, the candidate proceeds to the next step. (For applicants who desire a position in the Resident Firefighter Program, they will also be interviewed by a panel consisting of current Resident Firefighters.)

Step Four
The candidate is interviewed by the fire chief. Following successful completion of the chief’s Interview, the candidate is then put on a waiting list for membership within the College Place Fire Department.
