Since 2018 the City has been working on replacing Well Number 2. Existing Drinking Water Well #2 is not reliable and upon independent review of Keller Engineering it was deemed it needed to be replaced. The City obtained a State Legislative Appropriation Grant and State Drinking Water Revolving Fund Grant/Loans to make this project happen. Upon reviewing available sites, property the City owned on the southwest corner of Whitman Drive and Maple was chosen. The City contracted with RH2 Engineering to design the well shaft, wellhouse, and conduct construction engineering. The City contracted with Schneider Well Drilling to drill the well. The well is drilled to a depth of 800 feet. Initial pump tests on the well have indicated it has the ability to pump over 5,000 gallons of water per minute. In 2020 the State issued new design rules and regulations for mechanical equipment and wellhouses. The facility needed to be reviewed by the State before going to the phase of designing the well house with mechanical equipment. The City and its consultant team of RH2 Engineering/Keller Engineering are in the midst of conducting final engineering on the well house and associated mechanical equipment in 2021. It is expected that the wellhouse and mechanical equipment will be constructed throughout late 2021/early 2022. The goal is to have this well online and functional by Spring 2022.
