City staff just received a briefing from the National Weather Service. The water level of Mill Creek is showing a slow decline, which is expected to continue. No flooding within the College Place City Limits is occuring.
The flow in the Mill Creek channel through Walla Walla and north of the College Place City Limits is at a safe capacity. However, west of town where the channel ends, such as in the Touchet area, the peak is not expected to come until tonight or tomorrow.
The Walla Walla River through Milton-Freewater is about the same level as yesterday. It will likely remain high through today, and start going down tomorrow.
The Walla Walla County Board of Commissioners have signed a Declaration of Emergency related to the flooding throughout the County. The Red Cross has established a shelter at the Walla Walla Fairgrounds Pavilion, 363 Orchard Street, in Walla Walla. The Fairgorunds is accepting livestock requiring shelter.
The following road closures are in place near the College Place area:
- Last Chance Road between Mission and Stovall Rd.
- Wallula Rd near Old Highway 12
We are asking citizens to monitor KONA 610 AM/105.3 FM for the latest information on the regional emergency. Updates will be posted on the Walla Walla County Emergency Management Facebook page at www.Facebook.com/WallaWallaEM.
